As we drove into the driveway of our center, happy waving faces greeted us. Over 100 single mothers who are part of our churches around the city are here for a Christmas Celebration. Every year, we look this get together to encourage these precious ladies. Life as a single mother in this nation can often be extremely challenging. There are no payouts or benefits for single parents. So it really is a case of if you don't work, you don't eat. However, the challenge of working with children is difficult!
These women are champions and are filled with joy despite hardship!
Our livelihood project was first established from seeing the need of these women.
We asked God how we can partner with Him to provide and Above Rubies was born. Starting with making beads out of paper, as well as that they now make beautiful crochet items that are being sold locally and internationally. The project was also able to fund the prizes for the games for these ladies. Today, they put aside their troubles, worshipped God, prayed for each other, played games, laughed, cried and enjoyed spaghetti! Before leaving, we were excited to be able to give a food box to each one, that would enable them to have special food for their family for Christmas. What joy there is in giving!
